Coats for Kids was started by the Kalispell Jaycees over 35 years ago to help underpriviledged children receive new warm winter clothing. The first year they helped 17 families and through growth and continued commitment to this community, we have served over 4000 families throughout the entire Flathead Valley.

COVID-19 and Coats for Kids

Covid-19 has effected all of us in one way or another and continues to wreak havoc in our State. There are many unanswered questions: Will the children go back to school this year or will they work remotely? When will my employer reopen? Will my employer recover from this? Will I ever get to work full time for my employer again? There are three things for certain: Children still need warm winter outerwear, the need for our help is going to be huge this year, and we cannot help all these children without you.

Last year, we teamed up with the Sheriff’s Posse, Gunners Light, Kalispell Ford, Kalispell Volkswagen, Kalispell Toyota, Keller Williams Realty, Pepsi, and Residents & Businesses of the Flathead Valley. There were well over 500 children helped at “Warm Up the Flathead” event. People from all walks of life came through the doors and received warm winter outerwear for their children. 2020 has proved to be a tough year with uncertainty, insecurity, homelessness, fear, etc. Providing warm winter outerwear to the children will help settle some uncertainty and fear of going without. This will allow parents to use their finances to pay for their bills.

With Covid-19, we will most likely NOT be able to do “Warm Up the Flathead”. Instead, we hope to purchase a “Mini” bus and convert it into the “Warm Up Bus”. With this “Warm Up Bus”, we will load it full of coats, boots, hats, gloves, socks and drive to the schools in the Valley and hand out the gear to those who need. We will do this in a fashion that will keep everyone safe and do our part in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
